I joined NCFE in August 2024 as Director of Research and Innovation. Alongside my role at NCFE, I support professional learners with practitioner research projects as an Academic Supervisor on the University of Cambridge’s postgraduate assessment programme.
Outside of NCFE, I am a Trustee at Laser Learning Awards and for the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors.
I am an Academic Supervisor on the Cambridge University (with Cambridge Assessment) Postgraduate Advanced Certificate in Educational Studies: Educational Assessment course. The role involves supporting professional learners in completing assignments and research projects.
Between November 2019 and December 2021, I was Head of Policy and Strategy for the Federation of Awarding Bodies. In this role, I supported and promoted the awarding and assessment sector and provided specialist guidance on assessment/policy issues to more than 110 awarding organisations (AOs) and end point assessment organisations (EPAOs) in membership. I built productive working relationships with key stakeholders (including government departments, regulators, representative bodies, think tanks) and advised on all matters related to apprenticeships and qualifications. I shaped the Federation’s policy positions and responded to all major UK consultations.
Before moving to the Federation, I was a Product Manager in the Assessment Projects Group at Cambridge Assessment International Education. My work for Cambridge was focused on international education projects and included assessment design, development and ongoing management; design and delivery of capacity-building projects; and leading on desk-based quality reviews and comparability studies. I also led on risk management for the Assessment Projects Group and fed into Cambridge’s overall risk strategy as a member of the Risk Champion Network.
My work experience has been augmented by academic study in assessment and a PhD in History, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, which developed my advanced research, writing, and analytical skills.
I completed an MEd at the University of Cambridge in 2018 with a thesis that explored perceptions of ‘cultural bias’ in examination questions. This work built upon my Postgraduate Advanced Certificate in Educational Assessment and Examinations, received from Cambridge in 2017.
